Macromatic Industrial Controls
Designers and manufacturers of products that control electrical processes and monitor power to protect equipment from damaging fault conditions.
Macromatic came to Top Floor, looking to turn their antiquated site into a modern ecommerce layout that better helps their users find the right product, but also purchase it onsite, rather than solely through their distributors. The user experience for navigating to a product was through a long list of catalog numbers in a table format, without any visuals. Once on the product detail page, all of the information lived under tabs, which attributed to the site feeling outdated.
The client was also finding that their previous SEO program was not effective. They had information about each of the industries they serve living on a single page. In addition, the client wanted to add careers, testimonials, an Our People section with bios, and even translations to serve their Canadian customers.
The Solution
In order to create a tried and true ecommerce experience, a faceted sidebar was created for each product category to help the user filter the products by different attributes. Visual product teaser cards were designed to show an image, and product specification variables to ensure the user selects the correct product. A relationship was also created to offer related downloads, knowledge base articles and FAQs on each product listing page.
The product detail page was then redesigned, to show all of the product’s information upfront, rather than hidden behind tabs. It offered a much more standardized ecommerce template with an image gallery, variable drop downs and a full checkout experience.
To help improve their SEO, individual industry pages were created that covered the common challenges, Macromatic’s solutions, customer testimonials and suggested products. In addition, moving their site into the Drupal Commerce CMS made it much easier for the client to add new products and update existing content.
