Marking Services Incorporated
Manufacturers and installers of labeling and identification products for plant owners and construction contractors to promote safer work environments and minimize downtime due to errors or accidents.
MSI has been a long time client of Top Floor, and they were looking for a modern redesign and to add some new features to their ecommerce website. The previous experience for finding a product was quite the rabbit hole, where the user had several clicks through nested product listing pages to finally get to the product detail page. The only filters available were by industry or by legend. Because each product page was set up by the specific variable, it caused there to be several hundred pages to sift through in order to find the exact one. In addition to all of these variations, the base product was also customizable, but shown as a standalone experience. The product detail page itself was also lacking some important information that would be useful to the user, in making a buying decision.
The Solution
Overall, the site was completely redesigned to be more modern and fresh. However, the biggest change to this site was the user experience for finding a product. Instead of each product being broken up into it’s variable, it is now combined into 1 product with attributes being selected by the user on the product detail page itself. The customization experience has also been worked into the standard products to give the user all of their options in one place. Doing this greatly cut down the endless pages of results and made it a lot quicker to get from a product category listing page to a product detail page, with only 2 clicks. In addition, the product listing page now offers a filter sidebar with all of the product attributes available to narrow down the search.
Each product is now fully customizable, letting the user choose any background color and font color regardless of compliance. A technical specifications table was added to provide further information about the product, and a relationship was created between products and related downloads in order to serve supportive material on each product detail page. Then, due to the new Drupal backend setup of the products, correlations between product attributes could be made, in order to show the user product comparisons, which made for a really big improvement.

HSI HQ
The day to day system used by the MSI Customer Service Representatives to place orders, look up and register customers, and send orders through to the ERP system.
MSI HQ (formerly Data Mart) was originally built to bridge the gap between the website and the client’s ERP system. There were a lot of quirks and nuances about this system that caused frustration and limitation for the CSR’s. To solve all of these issues, Data Mart was completely rebuilt within the backend of Drupal to provide a more seamless experience that co-inhabits the customer facing website.
